A Short History of Goodbye Victory Road part 1
It all started in 2015 with ten sets of lyrics (written by Pat McVicar) which were held loosely together by a theme of British characters and social observations..
A friend (Paul Essex) had been through film school and had the opinion that the characters could be developed. They had a long chat and GVR grew a bit.
In March 2016 Adam Michael Nokes started to add guitar to some of Pat's demos. Around the same time Rob McManus started coming up with some tunes.
The first band get together was on a Wednesday evening at the Nags Head in Rochester.
Si Philpotts (The Bresslaws), Dave Sawicki (The Deccas) and James Cattermole and Richar Johnson (both British Litter) had a couple beers in a quiet corner and read through the GVR lyrics (still only 17 songs at that stage).
Rehearsals commenced in early 2017 and the first recording sessions were in June and then September the same year.
Two different line-ups booked into The Fort in Chatham in June to put down some demos. The result of Three sessions were good and resulted in Experiments, TOTP, Saturday Night, We Are The New Wave, Aint Got Time and Space Cadets.
GVR decided to continue working at The Fort and recordings continued in fits and starts...... the last session being James Cattermole's vocal in June 2019.
A 21 song version of the album was mixed over 3 session during July and mastered on the 4th august at Ranscombe in Rochester by Jim Riley.
Goodbye Victory Road part 1 has had two very limited pressings, a standard digi pack and the gatefold version pictured below.
